Taylor Swift, full Taylor Alison Swift. American singer/songwriter who's achieved huge fame with the stories that she shares about her childhood heartbreak. Swift was a fan of music at an early age and she progressed quickly from roles in children's theatre to her first appearance before an audience of tens of thousands. When she was 11 years old, she sang The Star-Spangled Banner before a Philadelphia 76ers basketball match and next year, she picked up the guitar and began writing songs. Taking her inspiration from country music artists such as Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks (now the Chicks) Swift crafted original material that reflected her experiences of growing up in a world that was dominated by tweens. Swift's parents relocated her to Tennessee when she was 13 after selling their Pennsylvania farm. This gave Swift to be more active in courting labels for country music in Nashville.
